In his early years, he rode with his grandfather José Manuel Linhas at their own facility where he developed a great love for horses.

Later he studied and graduated with a degree in equine management and became a professional level 2 instructor since 1999.

Gonçalo integrated into the Valença team riders in their Royal Horse Gala and Appassionata shows since 1996. He started an internship with Master Luis Valença and became one of his principal protégés. Since then he has been cooperating with the Valença family in many aspects including working, teaching, and riding.

In (2009) Gonçalo started his own riding and training centre in Vila Chã de Ourique, where he trains horses from Portuguese and international clients. Due to his success and popular demand, he keeps very busy with many happy clients and horses - from very young horses just starting their education up to grand prix level.

In 2014, his international career took off after launching a new project with Sofia Valença. Together they began to tour Europe, America, Australia, Asia, and Africa giving international clinics where they teach the Valença method, workshops and masterclasses. He never forgets to bring his riding boots because the clients are always asking Gonçalo to ride their horse!

In 2019, Gonçalo started a small lusitano breeding project, together with wife Nara França, equine Veterinarian, and with his associate Sofia Valença.
